The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) is set to welcome the World Irish Dancing Championships for its 50th anniversary in 2020. The 10 day spectacle is the largest and most coveted Irish dancing contest on the global circuit.
The prestigious event is expected to attract over 5,500 competitors across solo, céilí, figure-choreography and dance drama categories as well as 15,000 spectators, comprising teachers, family and supporters, generating in the region of €14 million for the local Irish economy.
James McCutcheon, Championship Chairman, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG) commented, “We are especially delighted that our flagship event is returning to the capital city, exactly 50 years after our inaugural championships in 1970 in Coláiste Mhuire in Parnell Square Dublin. The event attracts every top flight dancer from across the globe, each hoping to be crowned World Champion. We certainly look forward to the wonderful welcome that awaits us at Easter 2020, when all roads will certainly lead to Dublin”.

The World Irish Dancing Championships was previously held in Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, London, Philadelphia, Boston and Montreal and Dublin saw off stiff competition from Glasgow, Belfast, Kerry and Montreal to secure the highly sought after 50th anniversary event.
